About Keenjhar Lake
Keenjhar is a working reservoir as much as a beauty spot — it supplies water to Karachi — but it is also where the city goes for a day by the water. The shore has boats for hire, shaded picnic spots and a scatter of huts and resorts of varying quality. In winter it fills with migratory waterbirds, which is the quieter reason to come. It carries a well-known Sindhi folk association through the story of Noori and Jam Tamachi, and a shrine in the lake is tied to it. Weekends are busy and the shoreline takes the litter that follows; a weekday visit is a different experience.
