About Ranikot Fort
Ranikot is a fortification without a clear explanation. The walls run over the hills for a distance usually given in tens of kilometres, enclosing terrain rather than a settlement, and who built them and why is still argued over — the visible masonry is generally attributed to the nineteenth-century Talpur period, over possibly much older foundations. Inside the circuit are smaller forts, Miri and Shergarh among them, and a seasonal stream. Visiting means driving rough track and walking on broken ground, and there is no infrastructure to speak of, which is part of why it stays quiet. Carry water; treat this as a day out in dry hills rather than a monument visit.
