About Derawar Fort
Derawar is striking mostly because of where it is: there is no town around it, so the walls come out of open desert and are visible from a long way off. The plan is square, with forty bastions carrying courses of patterned brickwork that survive better on some faces than others. Much of the structure is in poor condition — sections of wall have collapsed and conservation has been intermittent — so what a visitor sees is a ruin of considerable scale rather than a restored monument. The royal necropolis of the Abbasi family and a mosque stand beside it. Getting there crosses desert track, and conditions on that approach are not something this guide can verify.
There is no town around it, so the walls come out of open desert and are visible from a long way off.
